Application Requirements

Apostille/Korean Consulate Authentication
of ALL transcripts and degree diplomas is MANDATORY for authentication. An application will NOT be accepted if the Apostille/Korean Consulate Authentication is not submitted with the rest of the requirements by the deadline.

ETS TOEFL/ IELTS Score Report: Minimum score for all degree programs is 71 in iBT or 5.5 in IELTS. An application will NOT be accepted if the original score report is not submitted with the rest of the requirements by the deadline.
The English standardized exam requirement (TOEFL/IELTS) cannot be waived or otherwise substituted, as it is an adherence to the guideline set forth by the Ministry of Education regarding "Academic Affairs Standard for Foreign Students Studying Abroad in Korea," and applies to every student who is of non-Korean nationality including, for instance, students of U.S. and Canada nationalities whose first and only language is English. Please note that an applicant cannot not be enrolled without an official and valid (two-year period) test score.

Application Form: Complete the application form carefully. You must fill out the "Major/Field of Study" section. If the prerequisites for the respective program are not met, the application will NOT be reviewed.

References: Must be submitted on the PUTS Admission application forms. General recommendation letter will be discarded. A, B, C, D are MANDATORY, while E is optional.

Academic: Reference from an academic professor whom you have studied under and who has evaluated your written work most recently in the highest degree you have obtained. He/she must be well-acquainted with your academic and intellectual abilities. It should include details on the courses that were taken and comments on your performance in class and etc. Ranking should also be verified and included.

Church: Reference from the moderator of your synod, presbytery or other leader in your church denomination. The letter should state the financial support they are willing to provide you and your family, and must vouch for the applicant's leadership and teamwork abilities, spiritual maturity, Christian character, and future prospects.

Employment: Reference written by the head of a theological educational institution, in addition to a separate statement on institution's official letterhead that guarantees the applicant's teaching position upon completing the degree program is most ideal.

Christian Character: Reference from an individual who knows your academic potential and Christian character.

Korean Mission Worker or PUTS alum: Reference by a Korean mission co-worker or PUTS alum active in ministry who is well-acquainted with your current ministry.

Statement by the Church

Statement of Purpose: Write a detailed proposal and specifically describe your professional goals and area of interest for participation in the program (i.e. Thesis proposal).

Theological Autobiography: Describe ministry and teaching experience. Describe how you came to the faith, and evaluate your personal faith journey and ministry. Identify your strengths and areas in need of improvement.

Statement of Faith: Personal confession of faith.

Statement by the Spouse

Financial Statement: Students must submit a financial statement of all the organizations that will provide financial support along with the amount awarded. All funds will be applied directly towards the students' degree program at PUTS (tuition, room and board, expenses and etc), and will NOT be reissued directly to the student unless specific request given by the donor.
